OK.. most MAJOR day of my life. I don't care that I just quoted Rachel Zoe.... because seriously... so MAJORRR!!! So, I was at work and I was helping one of my clients and as I was ringing her up I asked her what other stores she shopped at today... she then told me she went to Neimans because...ok... are you ready??!! MANOLO BLAHNIK was there... I about died. I probably asked her 5 times to be sure I heard her correctly. "So like THEE Manolo is here in this mall.. today.. right now!?" I did not know what to do with myself. I quickly called Neimans to see how long he was going to be there because I still had one more hour to go for my shift.. Ok they said in 20 min!!! I was going to cry... Instead I literally begged my manager to let me run over there and just see him at least.
Now... for me seeing Manolo isn't just because he is one of the worlds greatest shoe designers. He is one of my many shoe mentors. As you all know my career goal is to have my very own shoe line.. so this was just exhilarating for me. I'm sure any of you could compare it to someone you have looked up to almost all of your life and you find out they are no more than a few steps away..
So as I walked into the store I quickly looked to my left to see a group of people surrounding one area of the shoe section. My heart was pounding, I looked down to see my boot lace was untied and of course I was not about to meet my mentor with a untied shoe so I laced it up, took a quick check in mirror, and proceeded on. Then, there he was... I felt like a little kid in a candy store, but better. He seemed so charming and free, I watched him kiss old ladies hands and this one womans dog... He was full of laughter and joy. Unfortunately due to my lack of time I was not able to get in the line to buy his book and have him sign it. I wish that I was able to snag a picture of him and I, but I managed to get some of him. I knew I had to leave but I kept pacing around just in awe at this cute old man. An older man in a bow tie just gets me every time, so it being Manolo..well you can only imagine!!
I still can't believe this happened on such an unexpected rainy day here in Orange County, but I guess you never know what life is going to throw at you. It is not every day one gets to meet their mentor. XOX
Now... lets reminisce on some of the great things he has done...
